Bing SEO vs. Google
SEO
It's now late in 2009 and Bing has been live for a couple months now. Since that time, Yahoo and Microsoft have agreed to a merge. This merger will see Yahoo search be powered by Bing. Yahoo will share their search engine technologies with Microsoft in this deal. Have you thought about what this means to you for search engine optimization?
So, the future is certainly Bing vs. Google in the search engine race. Isn't the winner obvious? You may ask yourself why bother with Bing SEO. You may consider sticking with Google SEO and make that your final answer on the issue of search engine optimization. Hang on a sec.
A some point in 2010, after the merger and Bing powers Yahoo search, the experts think that Bing will achieve a 30% marketshare. That may be true in some parts of the world, but North America is a Google stronghold. It will likely fall far short of 30% in North America. Therefore if you target market is North America, you need to realize you search engine optimization objectives. You firstly need to be realistic about what is going to happen in the search engine race.
I think it's important to be realistic, but at the same time don't be afraid of Bing SEO. The Yahoo and Microsoft agreement means that your time invested in Bing SEO will pay off more than it is today. More people will find your sites. It's very unlikely that the current Yahoo search engine users will jump to Google. Possibly, but I doubt it. The growth of marketshare for Bing is eneviatable. It WILL happen. Bank on it.
The downside to the merger is this. What about your rankings on Yahoo search engine? What about your current rankings on Bing? How safe are they? I ask myself the same questions. I would suggest enjoy your Yahoo traffic now while you can. I certainly don't expect Bing to maintain your Yahoo rankings. I would argue that for the most part, the Yahoo search is broken. Bing and Microsoft may be able to salvage some helpful information to make Bing better, but it won't be earth shattering in my opinion.
In terms of intelligent search engine optimization today, with what we know, it's certainly more worthwhile than ever, to learn about Bing SEO. The differences between Google and Bing search engine optimization are not that substantial. Take the same core techniques such a link building, and you will do fine in Bing. I added the Yahoo element to this article because you need to consider how safe your current rankings are in Bing. They may not be safe at all. The merge could throw off Bing SEO. If it does, you need to visit us. If there is major changes happening with Bing search engine optimization, we will inform you.
Be optimistic, but be realistic. What's good now, may not be great in 6 months time. Will it be a tremor or a full scale earthquake in terms of rankings after the merger? Time will tell. Stick with your Bing SEO, but don't be overly disappointed with lost rankings in the future. I will be in the same boat as you. We all depend on our websites ranking well. It's no fun being tossed around like a yo-yo, but it's bound to happen as Bing settles into a groove and decides what it really wants to be. If Yahoo share brilliant information about their search, I'm sure Bing will test it. The result? Up and down search results I'm sure.
